Brief
As a social disease, obesity has tight relations with modern life. It is mainly attributed to four reasons:
- Obesity is an extrinsic manifestation of unbalance and hypofunction of organs resulted from unbearable working pressure.
- Obesity is the result of declining transformability that comes up when staying up at night deprives people of the best time of blood making, the key to increase vital energy and transformability.
- Obesity comes into being when cool air from air-conditioner and cold drinks suddenly terminate the natural metabolism of perspiration, which prevents metabolites from discharging. Thus the remaining metabolites damage the balance among organs. Moreover, outside intervention forces a stop to the cooling of heart, the hottest part when people feel hot, which seriously harms the cardiac function, further the organic balance.
- Today’s diet containing much acidic substance contributes to acidic constitution, the breeding bed for most diseases including obesity. Medical authorities found that 99.2% overweight people belong to acidic constitution. However, performing our simple and effective method, you may reduce weight without giving up tasty acidic food.
What Are the Causes of Declining Transformability?
Obesity is the result of declining transformability caused by unbalance among organs as well as hypofunction of organs, but what accounts for the unbalance and decreasing functions?
Obesity is a social disease that closely related to living environment in modern time.
1. Fast-paced work
Advanced technology (especially the rapid development of information technology), allows people to quicken their working pace. Increasingly severe competition also put people in a state of overload, both physically and mentally. TCM sees mental pressure as the No.1 killer of health. If people fail to release mental pressure in a long period of time, unbalance and hypofunction of organs, the inducements of diseases, will come up. “Overwork death” which happened in a high frequency in Japan in the late 1980s and in today’s China is a typical representation of high work pressure. Obesity is an explicit embodiment of inability to bear such pressures.
2. Work and rest style
“Beginning work at sunrise; resting at sunset”, this lifestyle is harmonious with natural law. In ancient times when there was no electric lamp, people went into sleep when it was dark. This original pattern of life mirrors human beings’ adaptation to the nature. With the invention of electric lamps, televisions, computers especially internet as well as the coming of colorful nightlife, people sleep later and later. Most seldom go to bed before 12 o’clock at midnight. According to TCM, the best time for blood making is from11 p.m. to 1 a.m. and blood can only be produced when human body remains in a state of deep sleep. Owing to ill habits of work and rest, people miss the best time of blood-making and self-adjustment, which causes a decrease in vital energy and a further decline of transformability. Hence a plump figure comes into shape. One point deserves clarification is that obesity is the symptom of diseases. It is diseases that cause obesity but not obesity that causes diseases. This is the most distinct difference between TCM and modern medicine.
(Obesity is the result of declining transformability that comes up when staying up at deep night deprives people of the best time to make blood, the key to increase vital energy and transformability.)
3. Air-conditioner and cold drinks
Like other high-tech products, air-conditioner has double edges: on the one hand, it benefits human beings, and on the other hand, it puts humans in danger. Lots of people would like to thirstily enjoy cool air and cold drinks when they are drenched in sweat. They make a big mistake because perspiration is a metabolizing process with sweat as its product. This process terminates when the body temperature falls to the normal level. However, air-conditioner and cold drinks bring forward this termination, which prevents the metabolites from discharging out. Under this circumstance, remaining metabolites block the balance among organs.
What’s worse, when people feel very hot, heart is actually the hottest organ that needs continual cool. Outside intervention forces a stop to the cooling of heart, which seriously harms cardiac function. If this lasts for a long time, pericardial effusion will be accumulated to obstruct pericardium, which may directly influence its beating ability. As balance between organs is achieved through heart beat, obesity comes into being when unbalance occurs. In terms of the causality of obesity and heart disease, TCM and modern medicine hold different views. Modern medicine regards obesity as the cause of heart disease while TCM considers obesity as the explicit reflection of diseases like heart disease.
4. Diet
Blood and body fluid (accounting for 70% of human weight) of a normal person are alkalescent. Their PH value is generally 7.35~7.45. According to authorities in medicine, acidic constitution is the breeding bed for most diseases, for example, the constitution of cancer patient is totally acidic. Japanese scholars claim acidic constitution is the origin of all diseases. It is reported that body fluid of 99.2% obesity patients is acidic. Therefore, obesity is also related to acidic constitution.
As mentioned before, no matter how complicated the absorption and metabolism are, an obvious point is that metabolism is a process during which human cells oxidize and decompose food, absorbing energy and releasing acidic metabolites. When the oxidization is incomplete, energy from oxids that haven’t been fully cannot be released to be absorptive. This incompletely oxidized oxid is fat. Apparently, in terms of reducing accumulation of fat, an alkalescent environment of body fluid does better than an acidic one. More importantly, alkalescent body fluid has physiological significances for health.
Now that body fluid should be alkalescent, why a dominant number of obesity patients have acidic constitution? This is attributed to our diet under the umbrella of high technology in modern society. Although the food we have today is tasty and delicious, most of them are acidic. A typical example is cola. At present, cola that Americans drink in a large quantity is acidic, with a PH value between 2.5 to 3. This explains why drinking cola can plump people. Animal protein and eggs are also acidic while vegetables, fruits and cereal food are generally alkalescent. Furthermore, mental pressure and staying up all night may acidify the constitution in that under such an environment organic functions decline to a point where food cannot be fully oxidized.
In such a case, shall we lose weight if we refuse acidic food and turn to alkalescent food? Our answer is “yes” if different foods are scientifically matched in combination with good habits in daily life. Since acidic food does harm to health and plumps people more easily, why a high percentage of food is acidic? Well, it is quite easy to understand. Acidic food is more delicious and sells better. Must we give up tasty acidic food if we want to reduce weight? Our answer is “no”.
