Brief
Different from modern medicine, TCM sees human body as a balanced entity in which constituent organs mutually promote and restrict each other. The human body, with a strong self-rehabilitation is the real doctor of diseases including obesity. What we need to do is to improve organic functions so that human body itself can maintain the balance among organs.
The Real Doctor Is Your Body
Compared with modern medicine, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) is different:
- Human body is a balanced entity in which main organs restrict each other. Once this balance is broken, disease will come up.
- Symptom is just the representation of disease while the real cause of disease lies in the unbalance between some internal organs.
- Human body is the real doctor of preventing and treating diseases. Medicines and therapeutic treatments only help recuperate balance.
Balance is a state that internal organs are mutually restrictive and their competence close to each other. The balance between constituent organs will be destroyed when the functions of some organ decreases, which leads to morbid symptoms in human body.
Generally speaking, symptoms appear in organs and tissues interrelated to the organs whose function is falling but not directly in the diseased organ itself. TCM considers it wrong to just diagnose and treat parts with symptoms. It attaches much importance to the real cause of illnesses. This is the so-called “it is not necessary to treat head for headache” in TCM. For instance, several minutes’ massage in some acupuncture points in feet can immediately solve the problem of headache caused by hot temper or worriment. However, for the same case in modern medicine, I am afraid that you have to take chemosynthetic medicines regularly according to doctor’s instruction.
Different from modern medicine’s overdependence on medicine and high-tech equipment to treat diseases, TCM pay more attention to the self-rehabilitation of human body itself. It is believed in TCM that human body is superior to any high-tech products because its self-rehabilitation is unparalleled. With the help of special treatment such as acupuncture, massage, guasha (a treatment by scraping the patient’s neck, chest or back with coin, etc.) and decoction of herbs, TCM improves the function of the sick organ and resumes its balance with pertinent organs.
TCM does not kill bacteria in parts with symptoms or simply cut off the incurable organs. By improving the organic functions, it assists human body to clear obstacles leading to unbalance. TCM opposes surgery to treat internal disease.
